Zavkhan province is situated in the western part of Mongolia. It was established in 1940 and administrative center is Uliastai which is 1115 km from Capital Ulaanbaatar. The province has an estimated population of 76,600 inhabitants and has an area of around 31,853 km sq. On the North it borders with the Russian Federation. The main ethnic group in the province is the Khalkh.

The territory of this province is hillous, 10 percent of the territory resembles Khangai landscape, and the rest is steppe and semi-desert. The eastern edge of Zavkhan province is the western flank of the Khangai Nuruu, the second highest mountain range in Mongolia, and a spectacular area of forests and lakes, dotted with snow-clad peaks, white-water streams and hot and cold springs. There are many rivers, such as Ider, Tes, Zavkhan, Khun. Small and big lakes include Otgon, Telmen, Khar, Kholboo and beautiful sightseeing as the following:
Otgon Tenger Mountain - Mongolian State worshipped mountain which is 3905m, peak in the Khangai Nuruu range and is now part of the 95,510 hectare.
Green lake - one of freshest small lake in Mongolia and it looks green because of forest reflection on the water.
Duut Chuluu - 3 stones which makes sound like empty iron box when beat them by wood and small stone.

Zagastain Davaa - spectacular mountain pass with the unusual name of Fish Pass. At the top, there are good views, a large ovoo and the largest collection of flies in western Mongolia.
