Umnugobi province in southern Mongolia is one of Mongolia's largest provinces, with 165,400 sq.km territory. The province was established in 1931 and the administrative center is Dalanzadgad, 553 kilometers from Capital Ulaanbaatar. The province has an estimated population of 43,100 inhabitants and people who live here are Khalkh ethnic group.This province has rich of natural resources, the mining is developing rapidly, there are Mongolian biggest coal and gold mining factories, such as Oyu tolgoi, Tavan tolgoi and Nariin suhait. Khongoryn Els - length of 180km and 15-20km wide sand dunes lies on the northern part of the mountains Sevree and Zuulun.
Yolyn am - narrow canyon of a river which flows through Mountain Zuun saikhan and the gorge has sheer rock walls with a height of about 200m in the central part. It has been protected since 1965.
Hermen Tsav - canyon with a beautiful oasis, 6 km wide and 15 km in length, 30m deep with natural formations of cliffs, and looks like the remains of ancient cities and temples or of icebergs drifting on the ocean, even like huge dinosaurs, turtles and crocodiles.
Bayan Zag - internationally famous for dinosaur remains including; complete dinosaur skeletons, eggs and hatchlings, from the Cretaceous period. Dinosaurs discovered here include Protoceratops, Oviraptor and heavy armoured Pinacosaurus.
Noyon Uul - 403m high, extinct volcano of the Gobi Altai mountain range. There is a famous cliff, which has a smooth external appearance, shining like a mirror from a distance, and thus was called mirror rock.
