Gobi-Altai province is situated in the western part of Mongolia and was established in 1931. The Altai city is the administrative center and 1001 km from Capital Ulaanbaatar. The province has 18 sums /towns/ and estimated population of 64,200 inhabitants. On average altitude is over 2000m above sea level and it is considered the highest province in Mongolia. On the Southwest it borders on the People's Republic of China.
