Bayan-Ulgii province is situated in the West of Mongolia, on the West and North it borders with the Russian Federation and on the South-West with the People's Republic of China. The province was established in 1940 and population of 100,000 inhabitants. The admistrative center is Ulgii, 1700 km from Capital Ulaanbaatar. The province is home to a diverse population such as Kazakhs, Tuvans, Uriankhais, Uulds and some Khalkhas and its fascinating cultures, traditional ways of life. About 90% of Bayan-Olgii's population are Kazakh, almost all of them Muslim, and rest of population are Uriankhai, Duba, Durvud and Khalkha.

Tolbo Nuur - Frog Lake is a saltwater lake is high (2080m), expansive and eerie, but a bit disappointing because the shoreline is treeless.
